Darrow Road Wesleyan Church Youth
Our Teen Sunday School is for
grades 6 – 12 and meets on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am. The faith based
curriculum follows the same Bible lessons as the other age groups but
bringing relevance to this age group.
All are welcome to join.
Youth group meets on Wednesday
evenings at 6:00 pm. Pastor
Jason Rhoads is the youth pastor.
Youth group is
an exciting place to be right now. The group is adding students weekly,
we are having fun, eating food and learning about Jesus and how to live
for Him. As new students come and are invited by their friends it is
becoming more and more exciting. Liz Deluca, Bruce Herstad, Patti
Silvernale and Chuck Shaul are a great group of adults that bring fun
and life experience to the students each week.
Within this growing group of students are several
who have committed themselves to Jesus in such a way that by the time
you read this there will be three missionaries in the youth group. Alex,
Matt & Liz have completed Campus Missionary training. This training
provides practical ways to serve, love, evangelize and disciple in their
school. Darrow Road church has a history of praying for missionaries so
will you pray for these three? They are part of your church and have
been called by God to be missionaries in their home, school and
community. Support them; encourage them; guide them; correct them; pray
for them but above all - love them.
Teen Camp 2012: Darrow Road participates in the Wisconsin District Wesleyan teen camp. Our teens get to meet fellow Wesleyans from all over the district and forge those lasting friendships that only a camp can offer. Plenty of faith based learning is mixed in with the fun. Camp is for those in Middle School through High School and is scheduled for June 24-29, 2012.
Age
Age is just a number, right? As a younger member of our
church, I wish I could say this is true. The bible does say in 1
Timothy 4:12 "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young,
but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in
faith and in purity." However, it does not say "Don't let anyone look down on you because you
are young, because you are
just as wise as they are." Job 12:12 says "Wisdom belongs to the
aged, and understanding to the old." Wisdom does come with age,
for people learn through experiences and I can guarentee my grandma has
a few years more of experience than I do, as does my mother. 1
Timothy 4:12 is an encouragement to us "youngins" to set aside
our worldly immaturity and find spiritual maturity. We can earn the
respect of our elders by acting as God instructs us to, in
life, love, faith, and
purity, although we should do
these things regardless of whether or not it will gain us respect.
On a final note, I speak for the "youngins" when I say: We understand
that we are not as wise as you, our elders, but we hope that you will
not look down on us as we grow spiritually. We ask for your help
in our spiritual growth by passing on your years wisdom to us. Let us
walk side by side, generation by generation, in our spiritual journey.
